We all want to feel safe, valued and respected at work – no matter who we are or where we come from. And yet thousands of people who care for our sick and elderly, and who harvest the berries and vegetables that feed our families, are being exploited and abused every year. They come to do jobs that are essential to our economy and society, and yet are often living on the margins of our communities, treated in ways that are far from welcoming.
Our new “Building Bridges” project, funded by National Lottery Community Fund, seeks to change this, to build solidarity and connection, increase worker safety, and ensure everyone is treated equally. Now more than ever we need to foster connection, community and solidarity.
We’ll be working alongside local community groups, leaders, charities, faith organisations, museums, and businesses to build connections, understanding and cohesion. We’ll start this work where our organisation is based – in Perth and Kinross – and seek to build a community of support for workers that extends beyond our organisation towards a region and country that welcomes every worker.
To help us make inroads in this work we’re hiring a new Community Engagement Officer to take it forward. Check out the job description and please share widely.
Huge thanks to National Lottery for this support, and we're looking forward to working with organisations in Perth and Kinross that are doing such great work in this area.
