This Wednesday 22nd October BBC File on 4 Investigates broadcast a programme about the treatment of seasonal agricultural workers in the UK.
Workers explained their reasons for wanting to come to the UK and how in some cases their dreams had been shattered. Whilst they thought they would be valued and respected here, many said they were not.
They spoke of dirty, cramped caravans, not being paid for what they'd picked and being treated badly.
WSC Director, Caroline Robinson, spoke to the BBC about the cases WSC has seen since we were established, and how in 2024 WSC saw a 72% increase in demand for our services compared to 2023.
She shared some of the issues that we see, non-payment of wages, unsafe housing, unsafe working conditions, poor treatment, and repercussions for raising concerns.
She also called on the UK Government to take responsibility for the issues faced by workers, through better enforcement - working towards a country that values every worker.
